The Duel
Summary-
Hamilton and Burr met to have the duel on July 11, 1804 near Weehawken, New Jersey. The form of this duel was called code duello and what was supposed to happen was Hamilton and Burr shoot at each other with distance of 10 feet between them. Burr shot at Hamilton, and, after being wounded, Hamilton died the next day. Two sides of the duel are known. The Hamilton version and the Burr version. Hamilton's side says that Burr shot Hamilton fist, and then quickly after Hamilton was hit, he fired. Burr's version on the other hand, says that Hamilton fired first for no reason, and giving Burr a reason, Burr fired, which caused the death of Hamilton. Burr's version was false, but his followers still believed him. This event changed Burr and Hamilton's reputations strongly. Hamilton became the poor suffering victim, and Burr became the evil murdering attacker.
